Old Glory

The Sower

Those are GOOD pictures, Josiah! "Old Glory" has got to be the best picture of the far...

Where was it taken? It's not every day that there's a flag flying at the top of what looks like a smoke stack--or something.

I like the one of Jon, too. You caught the fall of seeds just right.

Very nice pictures, Josiah. Why is the flag out of focus? That is an awesome picture, but I think it would be even better if the flag was in focus. Unless, of course, you had a good reason to draw the viewer's attention to that part of the flag pole.

Thanks a lot Kristen!

That is actually a picture of a flag at the top of a normal rusted old flagpole at a community center. I rested my camera against the pole at took the picture almost perfectly vertical.

Dale...Dale... what am I going to do with you? simply put the reason the flag is out of focus is because it makes a very dynamic, unorthodox picture! The viewer is drawn to the flag, not by focus, but by the color and obvious movement of it. While the pole might seem to be the "Focus" of the picture it isn't really since your eye follows the strong upward motion of the pole to the flag.

Just as a note I did take a picture were it was in focus and it turned out to be a technically good picture, but that was all. It really detracted from the picture because he gave it too much of a sense of reality, instead of the kind of half seen effect of this picture.

Thanks again!
