A Bible trivia games gets under way...

"Who wrote the book of Revelation?"

There is no question in Gary's mind what the answer is. :-)
Some answers come easy... others elude even the most seasoned players.

You can almost see the gears turning in Gary's head.

Wrong answer.

So what were the two ways Amos earned a living before he became a prophet?
"After the pharaoh of Egypt captured the city of Gezer, what did he do with it?"

...

Uhh...

OK, let's think about this now:
"Which of the seven vials caused the beast's kingdom to be plunged into darkness??"
Contemplation

We hope you all enjoyed this post, short though it was.
Have a great Thanksgiving and God Bless!

Friday, November 9, 2007

Hello all,

I am here writing alone as my fellow corespondent, Benjamin, is currently in Missouri. Ben, Karen, and Abigail are attending the funeral of Michael Billings. On Sunday he was killed in a car accident, he leaves two older sisters and his parents as well as many nephews and nieces. (You can read more at Doug's Blog). Please pray for them!

Since Ben isn't here I will just post four "Art" photos.

I hope you all have a good weekend,
God Bless,
Josiah

Fall Time Activities

Hi everyone!
We're glad you were able to join us again for this week's look at Life Through a Viewfinder. Well, it's that time of year again... The days are getting shorter, the nights longer, leaves are falling, geese are flying, and the E. family is making apple cider. We hadn't made apple cider for the last few years, but this year with the influx of apples we received, we once again pulled the old cider press out of the basement and set up operations. Of course, the dedicated staff from the Life Through a Viewfinder blog were on hand to make sure that nothing, no matter how small, missed being thoroughly documented.

Below are the results of our photographic labors. We hope you will enjoy the photos as much as we have enjoyed the apple cider. ;-)

The Camera

Before we get started, we think it only appropriate that we pause for a few moments and consider what a wonderful thing digital cameras are. Just think, without this camera, there wouldn't be any photo blog.

That would be a bad thing, right?

Right??

Cider Making

After sitting in the basement for a few years, the cider press is in need of some cleaning. And no, not everything in our basement is that dirty. :-)

A stubborn piece of dirt resist us...

This should fix it!

No? So you want to play rough huh? *out comes the the dirt killing brush*

But in the end all dirt, no matter how stubborn, will be overcome and float away on the soapy flood.
Grease & Gears

Cleaned, greased, and ready to roll!
Peacefully they sit there, blissfully unaware of their impending doom...

"Your time has come!"

Jon thoughtlessly cuts up yet another apple.
Peacefully they work, as apple after apple is halved and thrown into the pot...

A discovery of horrific proportions is made...

Josiah - "Somebody had better be documenting this."

"No fear Josiah, it has been recorded for posterity."
Precise positioning is absolutely critical...

"Fill 'er up!"

Finally the grinding gets under way and soon the clatter of the grinders and the sound of crushing apples fills the air.

But over all the noise another sound can be heard...

Uh oh, it looks like Josiah said something cheeky to Abigail.

Yes, he deserved what he got.
The Challenge

Challenger #1 steps forward...

The initial force defeated many, but the apples stubbornly refuse to surrender. Time to crank up the pressure...

Finally they yield their golden treasures.

Utterly broken and dispirited, the remains of the once proud apples are carted from the field in defeat.
Bring on the next batch.

After quick stop for repairs...

... the war continues.
Will the apples never end?

There isn't going to be much left of those apples when he is done!

A multi-tool anyone? (Leathermans are better.) ;-)
The Phero family joins us and Josiah decides it is time for Aaron to have his first photography lesson.

"Lesson 1: This is a camera. No, you don't eat it."

The pressing must go on...

What would an apple cider making event be without some good, down home music?

The moon climbs in the sky illuminating the shadowy figures below. Yes, he is related to us.

Meanwhile, Ben and Aaron face off in one of the most primitive of games... The Stare Down.
Bye, bye!

The last apples disappear into the grinder.

Concentration

The fruits of our labor.

Ahh! All that work was worth it!
The Picture of the Week.
Josiah took this picture by putting the camera on a tripod and then opening the camera's shutter for 15 seconds. While the shutter was open, he took a flashlight and traced the outline of the cider press. Pretty cool, uh?

~~~
Well, it's now past 11 PM and Josiah and Ben's creativity is wearing really thin. Uh, yeah... So have a nice week everyone.... Uh, g'night.
(See we, told you. Creativity ends now.)
It's that time again...
Hi everyone!
So you decided to come back, eh? Looks like Dale's admonishment last week did some good. :-) We also were warned by the Local Guardian of Justice not to ever do a post as good as last week's again. Being the good citizens we are, we took his warning seriously....
